本動画は、東京のゲンロンカフェで行われたトークショーを収録したものです。 【収録時のタイトル】 伊勢田哲治×三中信宏 司会＝山本貴光「科学と科学哲学――はたして科学に哲学は必要なのか？」 【収録日】 2019/9/28 【収録時のイベント概要】 遂に実現！ ゲンロンカフェで「科学哲学」トークイベント！ 科学哲学の俊英、伊勢田哲治氏がゲンロンカフェ初登壇！ 科学哲学とは、科学に関わる問題を考察していく哲学の分野である。 人工知能（AI）研究やロボット工学、ゲノム編集などの遺伝子工学、量子コンピューター技術など、サイエンスやテクノロジーが急速に発展をするいま、科学哲学の問題意識に注目が集まっている。 科学哲学者は「科学はわれわれの世界観にどのような影響を与えるのか」といった問いだけでなく、そもそも「科学によって、人間は真理に近づくことができるのか」「科学が扱う対象は、本当に『存在している』といえるのか」など、科学の法則や方法論の本質にまで切り込んでいく。 しかし、科学哲学者のそれらの探究は、ときに科学者からの反発を生む。 2013年に出版された、科学哲学者・伊勢田哲治氏と物理学者・須藤靖氏の対談本『科学を語るとはどういうことか』では、科学哲学者と科学者とのすれ違いを浮き彫りにしている。 ノーベル物理学賞を受賞したリチャード・ファインマンは「科学哲学は鳥類学者が鳥の役に立つ程度にしか科学者の役に立たない」と述べたという。須藤氏はファインマンの言葉を引き合いに出しながら、科学哲学の存在意義に疑問を呈す。 伊勢田氏は、須藤氏の主張に丁寧に応答し続けるも「（科学哲学も）哲学の一分野であり、哲学に内在的な問題意識で動いています」と、それぞれの見解は相容れず対話は終わることとなる。 生物体系学者の三中信宏氏は『系統体系学の世界』のなかで、伊勢田氏、須藤氏のそれぞれの発言に対して異を唱えた。 「科学と科学哲学は生物体系学においては長年にわたる文化的な〝共進化〟の関係を築いてきた」と、科学が多様であると同時に、それに応じて科学哲学も多様になりつつあることを指摘している。 この度ゲンロンカフェでは、伊勢田氏と三中氏をお招きし、科学にとっての科学哲学の価値と科学哲学にとっての科学の価値を、徹底議論する。 司会を務めるのは、山本貴光氏。『「百学連環」を読む』『サイエンス・ブック・トラベル』などの著者であり、文理を問わず幅広い分野に精通する博覧強記ぶりはゲンロンカフェ来場者にはお馴染みだ。 科学と科学哲学はなぜすれ違うのか？…
